Watercolor Botanical Illustration

When cooking, I enjoy the aesthetics of seeing the beautiful vegetables on my counter before beginning to chop and sauté and create a feast for the tongue. Yes, there is a feast for the eyes first!

While putting together a Mediterranean dish, I realized it was going to be a meal with several Nightshade fruits: tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. As they were on the counter, I kept noticing their stems. They were eye-catching because each fruit’s stem had a little ‘hook’ on the end of it! Even the petals of the tomato had ‘hooks.’ It was this shape that encouraged the painting of these three fruits together! It is such a joy to share life from my perspective with you.
